A Sunny, All-Day Elopement at Loch Etive in Glencoe

K & A came all the way from Minnesota for their romantic elopement in Glencoe, and best of all, we planned it all in just 3 months! K & A had both been to Scotland before, and enjoyed some great memories travelling around the highlands together. Coming back here to elope felt like the perfect way to celebrate their love story.

So last month, on the banks of Loch Etive, we had the privilege of bearing witness to the private ceremony of K&A. They shared their vows in the early morning sun on a small beach at the end of Glen Etive. A rare forecast of nonstop sunshine - uncharacteristic of the early Scottish spring, but gratefully welcomed nonetheless.

To celebrate A’s Filipino heritage, they brought a Yugal for the ceremony which had been fashioned by A’s mother. The Yugal is a ceremonial rope in the figure of eight shape which is worn by both parties during the ceremony in traditional Filipino weddings - not unlike the Scottish handfasting tradition!

From K’s side, they chose to finish the ceremony with the Jewish tradition of breaking the glass. They say that this ritual is done to be a moment of reflection. However, after the glass is broken, everyone presents collectively shouts “Mazel Tov!” to begin the post-ceremony celebrations.

K&A had chosen a peaceful spot nearby for their Wild Picnic, by the river leading into the Loch. It was so sunny and warm. Perfect picnic weather. The sun was shining but there was still snow on the mountain tops in the distance. It was truly one of the most beautiful landscapes we have ever seen. The only noise you could hear was the slow rolling of the river, the gentle breeze, and the occasional bird’s chirp. Complete peace. What a romantic place to sip Champagne with the one you love.

After a lazy wander back to their bed and breakfast and a much needed nap, we spent the afternoon exploring some other iconic spots in Glencoe. Day turned into evening, and with big smiles and tired legs, we finished an incredible day with some fish and chips.
