Should you choose fresh or dried florals for your elopement?

Adding florals to your elopement is the easiest way to create a pop of personality and style! Especially when we’re wandering around the outdoors, and there’s no venue involved, a few strong floral pieces are an amazing way to give your elopement that extra wow factor. By intentionally choosing colors, textures, and overall shape, you and your florist can create a unique aesthetic that will bring your photos to a new level.

When planning the florals for your elopement, it's important to consider how well they will travel and hold up in potential outdoor elements, especially in Scotland's unpredictable weather. We take pride in collaborating with excellent suppliers who provide beautiful floral arrangements tailored to your individual style for each and every elopement. We also recommend exploring alternatives, such as dried flowers, that add texture, don't require water, and can be treasured long after the wedding day.

Fresh Elopement Florals

A classic style, fresh florals never fail to bring a pop of color and texture to an elopement. There are lots of ways to represent your own personality and style with fresh florals, and we love seeing the variety with each of our clients!

Fresh Flowers Pros:

  • Fresh flowers are lush, fragrant, and full of life

  • They are perfect for couples who want a classic and timeless look for their elopment

  • Many florists can offer locally grown flowers, which can support local businesses and reduce the carbon footprint associated with transportation

  • Fresh flowers come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and colours, allowing you to create unique arrangements that reflect your personal taste and style

Fresh Flowers Cons:

  • Some flowers may not be available during certain times of the year, which can limit your options when creating a fresh floral arrangement

  • Fresh flowers have a limited lifespan, which means they may wilt or fade by the end of the day

  • Fresh flowers are delicate and can easily be damaged or crushed during transportation or handling

  • Fresh flowers can take up more of the budget

Dried Elopement Florals

Not many people realize dried elopement florals are an option, but they are absolutely amazing! We love dry florals for their convenience, longevity, and earthy aesthetic.

Dried Florals Pros:

  • Dried flowers can last for years if properly cared for

  • Dried flowers require little to no maintenance once they have been preserved

  • Dried flowers are a sustainable and eco-friendly option

  • Dried flowers are often more affordable than fresh flowers, especially if you choose local or in-season varieties

  • Dried flowers are allergy-free, making them a great option for those who suffer from allergies or sensitivities to fresh flowers

Dried Florals Cons:

  • Some types of flowers may not dry well, which can limit your options when creating a dried flower arrangement

  • Dried flowers are fragile and can easily break or crumble, which can affect their appearance

  • Dried flowers do not have the same fragrance as fresh flowers, which can be a drawback for those who enjoy the scent of flowers

Tips for Choosing Your Elopement Florals

It’s really hard to choose between sunrise and sunset! Here are 3 of my tips to help you consider what your elopement can be like:

  1. Local elopement florists - We always recommend choosing a florist local to your location, or one near us so we can bring your florals to you on the morning of your elopement.

  2. Sturdy flowers - The best elopement floral arrangements hold up well to transport and potential outdoor elements such as rain, wind, or changing temperatures. So when choosing your florals, we recommend leaning towards hearty styles over dainty/fragile ones.

  3. Trust your florist - They know florals better than anyone, and they will give you advice on colors, textures, and varieties to match your vision. It's always best to remain open to ideas!
